The total value of imports and exports of agricultural production between the European Union (EU) and the rest of the world is estimated at 263 billion EUR, according to Eurostat data for 2016. The main trade partner in trade is the United States – the country is the main recipient of European products. Last year’s figures show that 16% of total EU exports of agricultural products are directed to the United States, followed by China (9%) and Switzerland (6%).
According to Eurostat, 4% of the export of agricultural commodities from the community is directed to Russia. The bilateral relations are limited by the ban on importing a number of European products imposed by Moscow in the summer of 2014.
Brazil and the US share the first place in terms of imports of agricultural goods into the EU. Both countries account for 9% of the total import volume. Next are Norway, Argentina and Chile with 5%.
The largest share of imports is vegetables – 51%. The vegetables account for 25% of total Community exports.
