The Alphabet’s self-drive development unit Waymo hired the former Tesla executive Matthew Schwall. The new appointment is another hit for the Elon Musk’s company Tesla. Matthew Schwall was the main technical contact of the electric car manufacturer with the authorities investigating the security.
Matthew Schwall joined Waymo’s safety team led by former National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Deputy Administrator Ron Medford.
Former Tesla director has started work in Waymo last Monday and will be working on a number of issues related to the safety of self-drived cars.
Matthew Schwall, who also served as manager in Tesla, left the company at a time when the National Transportation Security Board was investigating a number of electric car accidents.
On Wednesday, the board said he would also investigate Tesla’s incident in Florida, in which two teenagers were killed and another was injured. This is the fourth active electromobile accident investigation of the popular company.
Tesla said at the time that it withdrew from the probe and disclosed that Autopilot, the vehicle’s driver assistance system, was engaged before the collision with a highway barrier, and the company blamed the driver for not taking control of the car in time.
